The Sharman's Celebratory Feast - July 26th Day 9 (53.93 miles)

SOUTH BEACH STATE PARK, OR - FLORENCE, OR - JESSIE M. HONEYMAN STATE PARK, OR

Day 9 was our favourite day on the road. Amazing weather and views. The climbs were challenging  but enjoyable and we were well rewarded with the views.

Day 9 also brought our final night with the Sharman's and we were rewarded with a feast, courtesy of Andrea Sharman. Jambalaya, shrimp, steak, salad, icecream and pie. It was an amazing end to an amazing few days spent with Eric and Kent Sharman. We really enjoyed the duo's company and their hospitality was unrivalled. The fact they were Oregon locals meant we had a valuable source of local information and we have found Oregon in their company truly fantastic.

Day 8 brought the first long, steep climbs of the trip. It meant an early morning, some hard pedalling but some spectacular views. It also served to prepare us for the challenges of Southern Oregon and Northen California.

After a couple of more relaxed days, the aim for day seven was to cover nearly 80 miles so that we could be prepared for the following days oft talked about climbs. It also included a trip to Oregon's No. 1 tourist attraction the Tillamook Cheese Factory.

Fish Taco's, "The Bridge" and and a fantastic Oregon welcome - July 23rd Day 6 (58.31miles)

BAY CENTRE, WA - ILWACO, WA - FORT STEVEN STATE PARK, OR

Our sixth day on the road was awesome. We started off in beautiful sunshine and the weather remained the same all day. It was also the day we crossed the border between Washington State and Oregon, a minor achievment in the grand scheme of the trip. It also meant crossing "The Bridge" with it's imposing 400ft climb.

After some incredible fish tacos in pictaresque Ilwaco, we ventured on to Fort Steven State Park for freshly cooked tuna and salmon. Ron and Sharon, too seasoned tourists from Salem, OR, treated us to an old fashioned cook out and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
